It’s rare when we give the Barclay Award to a high school student. In this case, it was deserved.
When we first saw this video in our daily queue, it was immediately impressive. Then, as more of the team saw it the response was, “Wow!”
Time and attention to detail is what makes a good music video. It was obvious to all of us here this team of Bryce Garrett and Cameron Elder all the details covered.
This detail is obvious with their choice of subject: Hempton Roast Coffee House and showing how they roast their beans. Will you ever find a better subject than coffee. Every one has an opinion about coffee. Then, add the smooth jazz of Tim Simonec and “Too Hip To Retire,” you all the elements you need. With Garrett and Elder camera work and editing you are left with a music video put together like a puzzle —fitting all the pieces into place beautifully.
The video intricately edited with shots of roasting the coffee with details of the band as they bounce off to the beat of the music. All the while never letting us forget this is about coffee.
As high school students they both have similar backgrounds. From Fort Wayne, Indiana, they go to Homestead High School. It was here they found their distinctive and individual styles, and ability to blend the two in order to make something different.
